The MFA Creative Writing Program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is a rigorous three-year residence combining an intensive focus in fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction and dramatic writing with an in-depth study of literature.
Students in this program work closely with individual faculty mentors as they progress towards completing a thesis and eventual publication. A second year comprehensive exam requires students to read widely with an eye toward better understanding the craft of writing.
The beauty and ruggedness of the Alaska landscape offers students an experiential and intellectual education among a core of writers who have come to Alaska looking for a supportive and like-minded community.
