How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in the University of Alaska Fairbanks MFA Program. We offer tracks in poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction and dramatic writing. Once admitted, students also take courses in literature, theory and pedagogy, making them into well-rounded scholars and artists.

The department offers graduate teaching assistantships, which are awarded on the basis of merit. Duties include teaching one section of first-year writing per semester and tutoring in the Writing Center. The stipend also carries a tuition waiver. MFA and MFA/MA students may receive up to three years of financial support through this program.

Our application deadline is January 15, with enrollment beginning in the fall semester. Please visit the “Applying to UAF English” page on our department website for directions on how to apply.
